Dr. Jerry Hsieh
"I am a pulmonary and critical care physician. Why both specialties? It’s because when patients are critically ill and admitted to the intensive care unit, they often have breathing problems, and so the practices of pulmonary and critical care are deeply intertwined and most commonly provided as a dual specialty fellowship program. Thus, pulmonary/critical care physicians are often ICU consultants in the hospital, but also consult as pulmonary doctors everywhere, whether inpatient or outpatient. The best part of this specialty is the advanced level of medicine that you will encounter. Seeing the sickest of the sick in every discipline, from cardiac to neuro, and even surgical specialties, we encounter it all. In the office, the most common reasons people come to see me are for cough, shortness of breath, abnormal lung imaging, snoring, and sleep apnea. I particularly enjoy the educational aspect of being a physician, as I get to teach patients about their conditions. I strive to be tech-forward in my practice, and am always working to integrate technology — including AI — into my workflow to improve efficiency, streamline communication, and ultimately deliver better care. Shadowing me would provide you with the opportunity to see all parts of what it takes to run a small private practice, including a firsthand look at how modern tools are shaping the future of medicine." - Dr. Hsieh
